Big action by administration before MP elections, liquor worth crores
The team of Sales Tax Department has seized liquor worth more than Rs 1 crore in Shivpuri district of
Madhya Pradesh. The special thing is that illicit liquor was being smuggled in the name of medicine. Due
to strictness in checking suspicious vehicles on the highway during elections, this liquor was smuggled
from ludhiana to maharashtra and was caught from a truck. It is being told that the Sales Tax
Commissioner of Shivpuri received information from an informer that liquor was being illegally loaded in
a truck and was being taken from ludhiana, punjab to Maharashtra. The price of liquor is more than one
crore rupees. On receiving the information, he instructed Assistant Commissioner Commerce Tax Jaya
Sharma to take action in the matter.
After this, the Sales Tax team started chasing the suspicious vehicle on the highway and stopped the truck
near village Sumela of Badarwas and started investigation. When the e-bill (bilty) presented by the truck
driver was checked, the medicine was loaded in the truck as per the billty. When the Sales Tax team
opened the truck and checked it, liquor was found instead of medicine. The Sales Tax team seized the truck
and kept it in the police station, opened the truck and started counting the liquor. According to
departmental estimates, liquor worth more than Rs 1 crore is said to be in the truck.
