After Telangana's National turmeric Board was established during prime minister Narendra Modi's recent visit to mahabubnagar, a 71-year-old farmer from Telangana's nizamabad district broke his 12-year pledge of going barefoot. Manohar reddy, a turmeric farmer from the telangana hamlet of Palem, made the decision to give up shoes in 2011 and promised not to wear them until his district's turmeric Board was established.

Reddy's voyage may seem unusual, but it was the result of a strong dedication to the welfare of turmeric growers. He fervently desired the creation of the turmeric Board, which would help farmers of the spice like himself. He set off on a 63-day padayatra from Ichoda in the adilabad district on november 4, 2011, and it culminated at the feet of Lord Venkateshwara in Tirupati.

After PM Modi's recent statement, reddy has once more put on shoes. PM Modi was thanked for the choice. PM Modi visited telangana on sunday ahead of the state's assembly elections. Modi said that the Centre will establish a National turmeric Board, which would be extremely beneficial to turmeric farmers in telangana and the entire nation, after launching and dedicating many development projects in the mahabubnagar district of telangana worth more than Rs 13,500 crore.
