Telangana HMWSSB to install solar power rooftop plants

The hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) will install a total of 70 facilities, including sewage treatment plants (STPs), pump houses, and office buildings, with rooftop solar power plants with a combined capacity of 31.12 MW.
The telangana State Renewable Energy Development Corporation (TSREDCO) would assist The Water Board in carrying out the project. The Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSU) project has named The Redco as the lead implementing agency for the State. The installation of the solar rooftop power plants will be supervised by the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC), an organisation licenced by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).

Redco executives claim that the HMWSSB's office buildings, pump houses, reservoirs, sewage treatment facilities, and solar PV systems would all have net metering installed on their unoccupied roofs. About 25 STPs are currently operational inside the boundaries of Greater hyderabad, while another 31 STPs are in different stages of construction with plans to add solar panels once they are finished, according to the officials.
Redco authorities are striving to complete the project's specifics, sources said. The project has been in the works for the past four years, but the HMWS&SB has experienced delays for a number of reasons. In reality, Redco launched a tender in march 2019 for the construction of 31.12 MW Grid Tide Solar Rooftop Power Plants for HMWS&SB, but the tender price was too costly, an official said, so it could not be finished.
Once the solar panels are deployed, the Water Board is projected to save a significant amount of money on energy costs. The sources stated that the water board will save over Rs 10 crore annually on power expenditures thanks to the projected solar facility.
