That means there was a severe lack of rain. As a result, Harangi Reservoir, the only reservoir in the district, is getting depleted before the end of monsoon.

Meanwhile due to this, in one and a half or two months, there will be a problem of drinking water in many villages of Kodagu district. Lakhs of farmers will also face shortage of water. Kodagu district received good rain for a fortnight at the end of July, so they sowed various crops including paddy and maize in the district. But in the month of August, almost all the rains have stopped, so now the sown crops are drying up. Farmers rely on the water in the Harangi Reservoir to get water from the canal. They believed that there was no need to be afraid of this. As of now, 1100 cubic meters of water is being drained from the reservoir daily, and if water continues to flow like this, there is no doubt that the reservoir will be empty as soon as possible. The farmers of the district have expressed their outrage over the fact that water is being drained into the river.

Moreover every year we sow different crops by trusting the reservoir water. Farmers are expressing their displeasure that it is right to drain the water from the reservoir outside the state when they are in trouble now without rain. Since the rains stopped at the beginning of August, there is only 6.91 TMC of water in Harangi Reservoir with a capacity of 8.5 TMC. Another concern is that even this much water will not be fully utilized. Due to landslides in Kodagu for the last four years, most of the landslides have filled the reservoir. It is silted to the extent of 1.23 TMC. Plus 0.427 feet of water dead storage. Thus, out of the 6.91 TMC water in the reservoir, only 4.5 TMC water is actually utilized. Now the rains have also stopped and there is only 208 cusecs of water inflow into the reservoir. But 1100 cusecs of water is being released from the reservoir to the river. It is a fact that if water is drained in this way, the reservoir will be empty soon.

At the same time last year, there was 7.93 TMC of water in the reservoir. In addition, 3236 cusecs of water was inflowed into the reservoir. Due to all these reasons, Kodagu district will face shortage of water in another one and a half to two months. On the whole, if there is a drought situation due to severe lack of rain in Kodagu district, there is a fear that the reservoir will also be depleted.
