G-20 Summit: Reasons for Russian President not coming to India?

G-20 summit is going to be held in the capital delhi on 9 and 10 September. Many top leaders of different
countries of the world, including the US President, the british Prime Minister, the President of China, the
Crown prince of Saudi Arabia, are going to participate in this conference. india is also fully prepared to
welcome him. Meanwhile, news is coming that Vladimir Putin, one of the controversial leaders who has been
at the center of the world since the war with Ukraine-Russia, will not come to Delhi.
 
The news of his not attending the conference was given by Putin's press secretary Dmitry Peskov. In his
statement to the Russian media, Dmitry said that the President of russia will not attend the G-20 conference
being held in delhi because at the moment the most important thing for him is the special military operation in
Ukraine.
Did not even attend BRICS summit
It would be nothing new for Putin to be absent from such big conferences. He had not attended the BRICS
summit held in south africa just a few days ago. A year before this, he was also missing from the G-20
conference held in Bali.
Why is Putin not joining?
1. Putin has limited his foreign tours: Experts say that Putin has limited his foreign tours since the war with
Ukraine. However, in june 2022, Putin also met Modi in tajikistan and Turkmenistan.
2. Questions and answers regarding the war with Ukraine: Experts also believe that if Putin attends the
conference being held in india, he will definitely be asked questions and answers regarding the war with
Ukraine. In such a situation, he is not joining the G-20 even to avoid these discussions.
3. ICC had issued a warrant against Putin: On march 17, 2023, the international Criminal court ie ICC had
issued an arrest warrant against the President of Russia. This warrant was issued on the charge of illegally
bringing Ukrainian children to Russia. In such a situation, those 123 countries which are members of the ICC
are bound to cooperate in the action against Putin. However, india is not a member of the ICC and is not
bound to cooperate with the arrest warrants issued.
