Why Putin had talked to PM Modi on phone..?

Russian President Vladimir Putin also had a telephone conversation with indian prime minister PM Modi on

Monday, august 28. During this he discussed the G20 conference. The two leaders also discussed the

importance of the agreements reached at the recent BRICS summit in South Africa, including the expansion

of BRICS. The PMO said that prime minister Narendra Modi spoke to Russian President Vladimir Putin and

reviewed the progress on several issues of bilateral cooperation.


The two leaders intend to implement large-scale energy projects, expand logistics infrastructure. Also

confirmed the intention to develop space cooperation between the two countries.

Putin will not come to india for G20 summit

The PMO informed that President Putin expressed his inability to attend the G20 Summit in New delhi on

9-10 september 2023 and informed that russia will be represented by the Foreign minister of the Russian

Federation, Sergei Lavrov. Expressing agreement with Russia's decision, the prime minister thanked

President Putin for Russia's continued support to all initiatives under India's G20 chairmanship.

What is G-20 conference?

The G-20 is an international forum for governments and central banks. It has been named G20 considering

the countries included in this group. G20 is the main platform to decide opinions on important issues like

international economic cooperation, terrorism, human trafficking, global warming. These platforms represent

approximately 85% of world GDP, more than 75% of global trade and nearly two-thirds of the world

population. Two-thirds of the world's population belongs to the G-20 countries. G20 was established in the

year 1999. Its first conference was held in december 1999 in Berlin, the capital of Germany. At that time

this group was formed to discuss policies related to promoting international financial stability.
