Telangana - Khammam IDOC becomes country’s first solar powered collectorate
On august 15, in honor of Independence Day, the transportation minister, puvvada ajay Kumar, will officially open the facility. On July 24, the prototype solar power plant at the collectorate was synced with the electricity grid. The solar panels have been mounted on the roofs of parking garages built for the officers' and employees' cars at the collectorate. For the IDOC's daily demands, the 200-kilowatt power plant could provide 800 to 1000 kilowatt hours of power.
The plant's power output would be utilised to meet IDOC requirements, with the remainder being sent to the grid. With the plant's commissioning, the power bill will only be paid for net use, saving between Rs. 80,000 and Rs. 1 lakh in electricity costs each month, according to authorities.
