The story does not end here, in the year 1976, there was another agreement between india and sri lanka regarding the maritime boundary. The fishermen community of tamil Nadu was quite upset with this. This was the reason that in 1991, after the Emergency, a resolution was passed in the tamil Nadu Legislative assembly asking for the return of Katchatheevu Island to India.
Much later, in the year 2008, AIADMK leader Jayalalithaa raised this matter before the supreme court and argued that the government of india cannot give the country's land to any other country without constitutional amendment. When she became the cm in the year 2011, she also got a resolution passed in the assembly regarding this. At the same time, in the year 2014, while arguing on this matter, Attorney General MukulRohatgi said on behalf of the government that Katchatheevuisland was given to sri lanka under an agreement and now it is part of the international Boundary. How can I get it back? If you want to take back the Kachchatheevuisland, then you will have to fight a war for it.
