The court has asked him to step down from the post by 31 July. congress and delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal'sAamAadmi party (AAP) attacked the central government regarding this.On behalf of the congress, the party's general secretary KC Venugopal while talking to the news agency ANI said, "This is a strong slap on the data-face of the government. The supreme Court's decision has put a question mark on the purpose of extension. This is a big failure on their part (central government).

Speaking to news agency, delhi government minister and AAP leader Saurabh Bhardwaj said that Sanjay Kumar Mishra's three service extensions show that he was helping bjp politically.Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar's party JDU leader Neeraj Kumar said that bjp used the ED politically. He did the work of giving protection to the economic great sinner of his place. In such a situation, the decision of the supreme court is welcome. At the same time, bjp spokesperson Rakesh Tripathi said that we respect the order of the supreme Court. Whatever the court will expect, we will act according to the law.

What did the supreme court say?

Justice B.R. Gavai, Justice VikramNath and Justice Sanjay Karol's bench said that in view of the related review being done by the financial action task force (FATF) this year, Mishra's tenure will be till July 31.In fact, according to the notification issued by the government, the tenure of the 1984-batch indian Revenue service (IRS) officer was fixed till november 18, 2023.


What was said in the petition?

According to PTI, the court had issued notices to the central government, the Central Vigilance Commission and the ED director on Jaya Thakur's petition. In his petition, Thakur accused the central government of destroying the basic structure of democracy by misusing agencies against its political opponents.Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala, trinamool congress MPs MahuaMoitra and SaketGokhale had also filed petitions against the extension of the ED chief's service.
