Increase in weight of the flight what the pilot requested the passengers?

A british (UK) airline EasyJet asked 20 passengers aboard a flight from the Spanish city of Lanzarote to Liverpool to get off the plane. Because the plane had become 'too heavy to fly'. This incident happened on 5th July. The flight was delayed due to bad weather and excess weight of the aircraft. The flight captain asked the passengers to voluntarily 'opt out'. According to a report in the british online newspaper 'Independent', a passenger recorded a video of the incident. Later 19 people decided to leave the flight themselves and later the plane could take off.
The captain of the flight told the passengers that the heavy aircraft might not be able to take off at this time due to the very short runway at Lanzarote and strong winds blowing in the opposite direction. According to the pilot, given the air condition and the priority of his company regarding safety, apart from this measure, the aircraft had no other way to fly. The pilot asked 20 passengers to leave the plane and choose not to fly to Liverpool tonight. The pilot also said that EasyJet will give up to 500 euros to every passenger who gets off the flight.
An EasyJet spokesperson confirmed that 19 passengers eventually agreed to leave voluntarily. Weight restrictions apply for all airlines for safety reasons. Such decisions are often taken in such circumstances. The spokesperson said that in the event of a flight exceeding the weight limit, we ask passengers to voluntarily move to a later flight without payment, which happened on this occasion as well. Those who do this are given compensation according to the rules. Because the safety of passengers and employees is the biggest priority of the airline.
