Kavach covers 25 per cent of SCR routes

Senior railway officials claimed on saturday that the locally created train Collision Avoidance System "Kavach," which may have been able to stop the odisha triple train tragedy, covers one-fourth or 25% of the rail track inside the South Central Railway (SCR) zone. To accomplish zero accidents, the indian Railways created and constructed a cutting-edge technological system. In support of these efforts, the Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO)'s Kavach system is now being used on 1,455 km of the 5,752 km total in the SCR zone.
Senior SCR officials stated that Kavach's goal is to prevent collisions between two locomotives equipped with working Kavach systems. Kavach was initially tested between Gullaguda and Chitggidda railway stations under the zone. Currently, Kavach is being implemented phase-by-phase by the indian Railway. Last March, secunderabad division Lingampalli-Vikarabad section trial of Kavach between Gullaguda and Chitgidda stations was reviewed by Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.

Currently, 3,000 route miles of the Delhi-Mumbai and Delhi-Howrah corridors are undergoing Kavach work. "The indian Railway created this entirely indigenous technology. The technology quickly takes control of the train speed in the event of a human error and regulates track modifications and speed limits automatically. A senior SCR official stated that the technology is comparable to other such technologies in the globe and that it will stop if there are any obstacles or a possibility of accident up ahead.
The automated whistling at level-crossing gates and repeating of signal features in the cab, which is advantageous for greater speeds and in foggy weather, are some of Kavach's additional advantages for managing train speed. "The Kavach system automatically regulates the speed as per the local conditions, in a safe manner, when the train runs on bridges, level-crossings, and other points," the SCR official stated.
