PM Modi plea about Super Food Millets!!!


In this era of fitness awareness, people's attention is again and again turning on those food items which are easily available as well as keep health under control. Benefit of millets is given a lot of priority in all these food items. It is believed that coarse grains like ragi, jowar(new quinoa) not only keep metabolism healthy but also prepare the body to fight diseases like diabetes and hypertension. Recently, prime minister Modi had also mentioned about these grains in 'Mann Ki Baat' program. Let us know, how these coarse grains are beneficial.


These grains grow well even in less water

The specialty of cereals like Jowar, Bajra and Ragi is not only that they are nutritious, but they are also economical. These grains can be easily grown even in less water, due to which coarse grains are grown more in those states of india where there is a shortage of water. Their production is also capable of withstanding conditions like floods and droughts due to climate change. Due to these qualities, the coming year i.e. 2023 has been announced to be celebrated as 'International millets Year'.


Crops coming in millets or coarse cereals include jowar, bajra, ragi as well as sawan,  Foxtail Millet, chena and kodo, kutki, Buckwheat Millet. Their number is 8 in total. These grains are rich in soluble fiber, essential for nutrition and metabolism. Along with this, the amount of minerals like calcium, magnesium is also high in them. For example, up to 364 milligrams of calcium is found in 100 grams of finger millet. It is more than rice and wheat.


Millets belong to the grass family, less likely to get worms

Millets are mostly plants of the Grass family. Because of this, the chances of getting insects and ruining them are less than other delicate crops. One of the properties of these grains is to keep digestion related problems away.
