Passports in the world are generally in paper form and india has decided to introduce an e-Passport as many innovations are being introduced in every country to enhance its security. What is an e-passport? Is this e-passport a complete wallet PLATFORM' target='_blank' title='digital-Latest Updates, Photos, Videos are a click away, CLICK NOW">digital passport? How does e-Passport work? In an official statement issued by Union minister of State for External Affairs v Muraleedharan, the government of india has stated in parliament that the government of india will issue e-Passports to the people in the financial year 2022-23. This will allow all new passport applicants and passport renewers to obtain an e-Passport.
Document 9303 of the international Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) is authorized to accept such a chip-equipped passport. This document also provides information on what such a chip-equipped e-passport should look like.
A passport equipped with this chip works almost like a chip on a credit card or debit card. The chip-enabled passport can be scanned with RFID technology to retrieve relevant information, as well as verify the information.
The government has also said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has handed over the technical responsibility to the National Information Center (NIC) as it has decided to issue the e-passport. This e-passport can be used in many ways.
