Petrol and diesel prices have also been raised in Peru. Due to this, the prices of food items have also gone up. Not only that, but farmers were also directly affected by the high cost of agricultural fertilizers, including potassium, ammonia, and urea.
Fertilizer imports from russia have been hampered by the Russia-Ukraine war and prices have risen. people went on strike due to rising prices of fuel including petrol, diesel, gas cylinders, and rising prices of fertilizers.
The protest, which has been going on for the past two weeks, has been going on in the capital Lima for the past two days. So far 4 people have been killed as the protest turned violent. Protesters smashed customs in several places.
President Pedro Castillo held a cabinet meeting on controlling the struggle. It approved the implementation of a curfew to control the protests. Accordingly, he addressed the people of the country last night. He said the curfew was in effect from 2 am to 11.59 am on april 5 to protect the fundamental rights of all people. The public is not allowed to leave the house at this time.
