Mamata Banerjee, the leader of the trinamool congress, has recently taken a number of steps that show her desire to present herself as an alternative to the congress at the All india level. 



But to what extent is that possible?


An event in meghalaya last week took many across india by surprise. Several congress MLAs, including former state chief minister Mukul Sangma, left the party and joined the Trinamool Congress.

"The United Progressive Alliance is not like that. Given the current situation in the country, we need to form a strong alternative coalition against fascism. No one can do it alone. We must unite it with the strong,"
