Former CM Relative Arrested for looting money under name of Job Offers

Former chief minister Edappadi Palanisamy's aide has been charged with embezzling several lakhs of rupees under the guise of securing a government position by the Central criminal Investigation Department (CID). Mani (45) comes from the Pusaripatti neighbourhood of Salem's Omalur district, near Thinnapatti. For the past ten years, he has worked as an advisor to former chief minister and current opposition leader Edappadi Palanisamy.

Tamilchelvan, a citizen of the Cuddalore area of Neyveli, has filed a complaint against former chief minister Palanisamy's aide Mani with the salem Central Crime Branch Police. Tamilchelvan claimed in his lawsuit that he was involved in fraud by obtaining Rs. 17 lakhs per hour in exchange for pretending that he would buy a government position. Along with the complaint, he sent a copy of the bank account book and the paperwork pertaining to the money transfer to the Central criminal Division police.

During the Central criminal Division police inquiry, Tamilchelvan approached Mani and offered him a job as an Assistant engineer with the State Transport Corporation. Tamilchelvan allegedly paid Selvakumar Rs. 17 lakhs through Mani, assuming that he knew key officials in the State Transport Corporation. Following this, aides to former chief minister Palanisamy, Mani and Selvakumar, have filed complaints under sections 120 (1), B, and 420 for defrauding the public.
