According to deadline.com, the US supreme court refused a request for emergency assistance barring Texas' new law prohibiting abortion after six weeks, which critics claim virtually limits abortion access statewide. On social media, a number of well-known actors, musicians, and other artists and businesses quickly reacted to the news. Reese Witherspoon and Dua Lipa are some of the big names.

"I stand united with Texans & individuals worldwide wanting reproductive choice," several people said. Washington also posted a link to a Planned Parenthood campaign, which asserts that "healthcare system - including safe, access to abortion - is a human right," among other things. "The high court is weeks away from considering a case that undermines the protections of Roe v. Wade," the petition adds. Others who have backed the cause are listed and women account for the vast majority of the registrants.

Joe Biden has criticized the united states supreme court for causing "unlawful anarchy" by allowing Texas, the second-most densely populated state, to pass a bill prohibiting abortions after six weeks of pregnancy. The president of the united states slammed the court after it announced a midnight ruling allowing the southern state to enforce the legislation, one of the most major legal victories for anti-abortion activists in recent decades.
