It is heard that a beleaguered Congress in Telangana is working hard trying to poach some of TRS candidates it expects to win so that it can upset the regional party’s plan to form its own government in the new state.
Sources say Congress leaders are in touch with prospective TRS MLAs, luring them with important ministerial berths in case they can trigger large-scale defections. Sources say Telangana Congress chief Ponnala and former PCC president DS are in talks with some of the disgruntled TRS candidates.
This was reportedly confirmed by TPCC spokesman Sravan Dasoju. It is being said that M Sahodar Reddy (Parkal), P Mahender Reddy (Dornakal), E Gurunath Reddy (Kodangal), Nugu Ravinder Reddy (Yellareddy) and Shashidhar Reddy (Kodad) have been approached already.
Sources say that most prospective MLAs are actually from the Reddy community and they were with the TDP before switching over to TRS with reports that 15-odd TRS candidates are willing to operate as a separate block so that the anti-defection law cannot apply to them.
