Aamir Khan Reacts to Laapataa Ladies Being Chosen as India’s Entry for Oscar 2025
Aamir Khan expressed his joy and pride as kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies was selected as India’s official entry for the 2025 Oscars. In a statement released on Monday, the bollywood star thanked the audience for their love and support for the film, and he expressed hope for Kiran’s success at the Academy Awards.
“We are all so happy with the news. I am incredibly proud of kiran and her entire team. I want to thank the selection committee of the Film Federation of india for choosing our film to represent india at the Oscars,” Aamir stated. He extended his gratitude to the audience, media, and the film industry for their support, acknowledging the contributions of partners like jio and Netflix. “I am thrilled that all our hard work has paid off. Thank you, everyone,” he added, concluding with a wish for Laapataa Ladies to win the hearts of Academy members.

Set in rural india in 2001, Laapataa Ladies tells the story of two brides who are mistakenly exchanged during a train journey, leading to a series of twists and turns as their husbands search for the real brides. Produced by aamir khan Productions and Kindling Productions, the film marks kiran Rao's directorial return after Dhobi Ghat. It was previously screened at the prestigious Toronto international Film festival (TIFF) in 2023, where it received a standing ovation.
