Famous actress Smriti Biswas Narang died at her home in Nashik Road last wednesday evening at the age of 100.Famous actress Smriti Biswas Narang, known for her iconic roles in both Hindi and bengali films, died at her home in Nashik Road last wednesday evening. The actress breathed her last at the age of 100 due to age-related problems. Her last rites with Christian rituals took place on thursday at 10 am.

Smriti, who earlier had a lot of wealth in Mumbai, moved to Nashik 28 years ago to live under the protection of her Christian missionary sister and lived in a simple house there. In the three decades from the 1930s to the 1960s, Smriti acted in many successful films like Nek Dil, Aparajita, and Modern girl and made significant contributions to the film industry.


Distanced herself from acting after marriage


Smriti began her career as a child artist at the age of 10 in the bengali film sandhya and acted in several films produced in Kolkata, including hemant Bose's Dwandva and Mrinal Sen's Nil Akasher Neeche. She has acted in many hindi, Marathi and bengali films. Smriti Biswas began her career as a child artist. She worked in films of Guru Dutt, v Shantaram, Mrinal Sen, Bimal Roy, BR Chopra, and raj Kapoor. She acted alongside Dev Anand, kishore Kumar, and other notable actors. Biswas retired from acting after marrying film director SD Narang in 1960.

She made guest appearances in Bimal Roy's Pehli Aadmi, AR Kardar's Bhagam Bhag with kishore Kumar, Bhagwan Dada's Baap Re Baap, AN Banerjee's Humsafar with Dev Anand, Guru Dutt's Sailaab with Geeta Bali, v Shantaram's Teen Bate and Chaar Rasta, Jagte Raho produced by raj Kapoor, BR Chopra's chandni Chowk with meena Kumari in the lead and SD Narang's Dilli Ka Thug in the 1950s. She was equally adept at comedy and social and historical dramas.

Film heritage Foundation expressed grief


She was living a life of poverty in Nashik before her death. Smriti has two sons, Rajiv and Satyajit. Film heritage Foundation also condoled the death of the actress. They tweeted, 'Film heritage Foundation was deeply saddened to hear the news of the demise of yesteryear actress Smriti Biswas yesterday. Smriti Biswas, who celebrated her centenary in february this year, was one of the most vibrant and charming actors in the 1940s and 50s.'
