The singer, who has sung many memorable songs in tamil cinema, is survived by her singer-husband AV Ramanan, and their son Vignesh Ramanan. The reason behind his demise is still unknown. Many songs for husband

Uma Ramanan was a trained classical singer and participated in more than 6,000 concerts over 35 years. When she met her husband and composer AV Ramanan, she started collaborating with him for his concerts. Although Uma sang many songs for her husband, it was her association with Ilaiyaraaja that brought her fame.

Uma Ramanan's 'Poongathaave Thal Thiravai' from the tamil film 'Nizhalgal' gave him recognition. Thisgave his career a boost and he worked with Ilaiyaraaja in more than 100 songs. Apart from Ilaiyaraaja, he also sang for composers Vidyasagar, mani sharma and Deva. Uma Ramanan's last song was 'Kannum Kannumthaan Kalandachu' for Vijay's 'Thirupachi'. He sang this song composed by mani sharma with Harish raghavendra and Premji Amren.
