Meddling Moms and their daughters of Tollywood

S Venkateshwari
In China, mothers who inspire their children to pursue greatness and win Olympic gold are revered as "Tiger Moms." However, there is another group of well-known "Tiger Moms" in the South indian film industry, particularly in kollywood and Tollywood. Yes, we are referring to the moms of young movie heroes who have been in the industry for a long time, having left their traditional homes when their daughters decided to pursue careers as movie stars.
It could have worked well in a time when movie heroines were not given much respect or a vanity vehicle, much alone necessities like food. As we've seen, the moms of several historical heroines, like jayalalitha and Sridevi, were also rather visible and occasionally caused conflict and over-interference on the set. Back then, the Star moms would frequently match the tantrums exhibited by Star heroes, interfering with everything from the makeup artist to the food given and the vanity vehicles assigned.

Some of these celebrity moms have been known to order meals for 20 people in addition to the actress, who would then get her order and head home. Alternatively, they might request additional food and drink bottles, only to send the entire group home with the "Baby." In one of his megahit flicks, "Khadgam," krishna Vamsi made a funny remark about these overbearing mothers who interfere too much with their daughters' attempts to become famous.

However, throughout the 1990s, a lot of the modern-day heroes began to employ managers or professional secretaries, which included makeup artists, hair stylists, and costume designers. A few of them have achieved success or even super stardom by managing their careers professionally and abstaining from indulgences from their mothers. rakul preet singh, trisha krishnan, kajol Agarwal, Shriya Saran, and, more recently, rashmika Mandana are a few examples. They have all maintained their professional integrity over several decades by producing a substantial body of work with a no-nonsense attitude.
