1. Approval for Census 2027
The Union cabinet, chaired by prime minister Narendra Modi, approved ₹11,718 crore for the upcoming Census 2027.

A dedicated mobile application will be used for data collection.
The application will support Hindi, English, and various regional languages, ensuring ease of use across the country.
A Gazette notification will detail the parameters and data to be collected, including caste-related information.
Caste disclosure is optional—citizens may choose not to provide this data.
Only aggregated data will be made public; micro-level data will not be published to maintain confidentiality.
The overall design focuses on transparency, data accuracy, and security.
3. Key Reform in the Coal and Energy Sector
The cabinet approved a new coal auction system called “Coal Bridge.”
Objective: Strengthen self-reliance in coal production, reducing the country’s dependency on imports.
Due to reduced coal imports, india is saving approximately ₹60,000 crore.
Coal production is expected to touch 1 billion tons in 2024–25.
India has created record coal stock levels in domestic power plants.
The initiative strengthens the partnership between indian Railways and the coal sector, ensuring efficient transportation.
4. Major Decision for Farmers: MSP for Copra
The cabinet approved the MSP for Copra for 2026:
₹12,027 per quintal for crushed copra.
₹12,500 per quintal for round copra.
NAFED and NCCF will act as the nodal agencies for procurement.
This decision aims to ensure better income, market stability, and price assurance for coconut farmers.
