Hollywood Film Inspired by ‘Hanuman’

Dev Patel, a hollywood actor best known for his roles in Slumdog Millionaire and Legend, will shortly make his directorial debut with the film Monkey Man. He also takes a major part in it. Surprisingly, the film concentrates on the hero, drawing influence from Lord Hanuman.

The trailer for the film, which is billed as a brutal and action-packed thriller, was released and it looked dramatic and emotional. The plot focuses on a man seeking vengeance against the man who killed his mother. The film draws inspiration from Lord Hanuman, who represents courage and power.

Set in modern-day Mumbai, Monkey Man depicts the narrative of Kid (Patel), an ex-con whose return to society serves as a cruel reminder of how India's caste system traps poor, vulnerable individuals in cycles of violence and structural poverty. The kid has wonderful recollections of an ideal childhood fostered by his loving mother (Adithi Kalkunte), who wowed him with Hanuman legends. However, as an adult, Kid's existence is characterized by the misery of working as an unpaid server and the terror of living in a society where sociopathic elites may easily avoid the law.
Kid recognizes shadows of wicked figures from the mythology he admired as a boy in the criminals that terrorize his city. In the trailer for Monkey Man, you can see how the Hanuman mythology drives Kid to become both a masked cage fighter and a john Wick-style man in black who goes out to kill as many criminals as he can. The teaser makes it difficult to determine how unique Monkey Man's plot — co-written by Patel, Paul Angunawela, and john Collee — will seem in comparison to other films that address similar themes.
