1 dead in huge fire at Mumbai timber market - 20 fire engines at spot

A man's charred body was discovered after a big fire broke out at a wood market in Mumbai's Do Taki district early friday morning. A total of 20 fire engines were dispatched to extinguish the flames, and rescue efforts are continuing. The fire erupted about 2 a.m. and remained uncontrollable for over three hours.

As the fire overtook the structure, additional explosions occurred, possibly caused by cylinders, making the dousing task difficult. No injuries have been recorded thus far. The fire erupted at 2 a.m., and 20 fire engines were dispatched to extinguish the flames, he added. Authorities evacuated a neighbouring mall and a high-rise while the fire, designated as 'level 4' by the fire department, raged, an official said. Aside from the fire department, police, local civic ward authorities, BEST personnel, and ambulances have been mobilised for the firefighting effort. A rescue effort was initiated, and firemen retrieved a man's burnt body, he added.
