Javed Akhtar is a veteran lyricist and lyricist who has won five national awards. He has now publicly expressed his views on the changing indian cinema. Legendary lyricist and screenwriter javed akhtar said in an interview last wednesday that indian cinema has undergone a lot of changes over the years and it is up to the directors to decide what kind of films to make for the people.

He said that the heroes of yesteryear were very different and portraying their characters like that in today's movies may not work to a large extent. Notably, 78-year-old lyricist Javed has received the Padma Pani Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to indian cinema. He was presented with the award at the inaugural function of the 9th Ajanta Ellora international Film festival in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, Central Maharashtra. Akhtar says, we have progressed a lot in film making. However, when boarding the train to the future, we have left a lot of stuff on the platform, he said.

Language, literature, classical music are left behind. But these values are still important for people living in small towns. Talking about his works, Akhtar said that while writing film scripts, he never thought about their financial or social impact.

He mentioned the changing perception of film heroes, and there was a time when the hero of a film rebelled against his parents to marry his voice actress. Later, heroes came to show social inequality, law, courts and things against the constitution.

However, today we cannot make such characters stand in movies. "Ultimately, the directors have to decide what kind of cinema to make so that the films are well received by the audience and they also strengthen the film industry," said Akhtar.
