Jail sentence confirmed for actress Jayapradha!?

Actress and former mp Jayapratha has been sentenced to prison in a complaint filed against her for non-payment of ESI amount for workers to the State Insurance Corporation. A leading actress in indian cinema in the 70s and 80s, Jayapratha has acted in films like Chinthale Inikum with superstar Rajinikanth, Salangai Oli, and Dasavathara with Kamal Haasan. Apart from Tamil, she has also acted in languages like telugu, kannada and Hindi. Jayapradha, who found a field in politics after cinema, initially worked with the party in telugu Desam. Later she left the party and joined the Samajwadi Party.
Similarly, mp Jayapratha, who contested in the parliamentary elections and won from the Rampur constituency, completely withdrew from acting and showed interest in politics. Also, Jayapratha has inverted the money she earned from cinema in some businesses and is also earning through building a theater in her name. She also operated a theater called Jayapratha in Rayapetta, Chennai. When this theater was closed down due to some problems, she was running a theater along with some businessmen on the road. It is this theater that has given Jayaprata a prison sentence. The amount of ESI she collected from the workers who worked in this theater was not properly paid to the Labor government Insurance Corporation. In this regard, the Labor government Insurance Corporation filed a case in the Egmore Court. Against this, a case was filed in the madras high court against Jayapratha and three others.
When the case came up for hearing in the Egmore court last august before the judge, Jayapratha said that she would pay the amount received from the workers. To this, the lawyer of Labor government Insurance Corporation objected. After hearing the arguments of both the parties, the court sentenced the three including Jayapratha to six months imprisonment and fined Rs 5,000. Following this, an appeal was filed again from Jayapratha's side seeking suspension of the 6-month prison sentence awarded by the Egmore court. While the hearing on the petition related to this appeal was heard today in the madras high court, it not only upheld the jail sentence imposed on three people including actress Jayapratha, but also ordered them to deposit 20 lakhs within 15 days. This incident has created a sensation in the film industry and political circles.
