Reportedly veteran actress sharmila tagore started her career with bengali films in her childhood. At the young age of 13,
she gained immense popularity by playing the role of a child bride in Satyajit Ray’s 1959 film Apur Sansar. In a
recent interview, the actress said that she received a lot of praise for her work in films, but she did not pay much
attention to it because she was not fully aware of her fame.

Speaking to Quorum, sharmila recalled getting selected for Apaar Sansar from her home. She said that Satyajit
Ray had taken permission from her grandfather Kanakendranath Tagore to cast her in the film and after its
release, she soon became the heartthrob of Bengal. sharmila said, “Working in that film, and the kind of praise
it received when it released, changed my life. At the age of 13, I became the heartbeat of bengal overnight. She
added, At that time, I didn’t even appreciate what was happening.
How was father’s reaction when sharmila got a film at a young age?
sharmila also mentioned her father’s reaction on getting her first film at such a young age. She recalled that her
father had asked film maker Satyajit not to give her any payment, and had even warned the film maker not to cast
her in the film if she did not agree to his request. sharmila said her father had said, Of course, there is no
question of getting paid, and if you think she is fooling herself, then please don’t take her. sharmila said, I didn’t
fool myself.
Even after doing films, Sharmila’s life was not the same as before.
After this sharmila signed Satyajit Ray’s Devi. sharmila believes that her performance in Devi is the best
performance of her career. However, she did not want to stay away from her friends for too long and hence she
continued studying in college. I didn’t really have the kind of life I was looking for, she said. I wanted to do
History Honors. However, his life was not the same because half of his friends only wanted to talk about actors
and the other half did not want to talk to him at all.
