The music of the film was given by vishal Shekhar but honey singh was roped in as a guest composer for a song. He had prepared 'Lungi Dance' for the film and it proved to be a big hit.

Shahrukh did not like - This song was kept as a tribute to South Superstar Rajinikanth in the film. Regarding this, honey singh had told in an interview, 'Shah Rukh Bhai called me and asked me to make a song for 'Chennai Express'. He asked me to make a song like 'English Beat'. I told him that I will make something else which will match with his vibes. I made 'Lungi Dance' and he didn't like it. He took 3 weeks to decide whether to take this song or not. After this he gave his consent.
