1) 🚇 Big Metro Boost for UP Commuters

The Uttar Pradesh Metro rail Corporation (UPMRC) has officially launched a Long‑Term Metro Development Plan (2025–2047) — a major step toward enhancing urban transit and realising the ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ vision outlined by the Modi government.


2) 🏙️ Three Cities in Focus: Lucknow, kanpur & Agra

Under the new development roadmap, three key Uttar Pradesh cities are set to receive extensive metro network expansions:

  • Lucknow
  • Kanpur
  • Agra
This plan aims to transform these cities into major rapid transit hubs that support rising commuter demand and urban growth.


3) 📅 When Will Metro services Be Operational?

While the overall plan extends to 2047, parts of the systems are already operational or expanding:

  • Lucknow Metro is active and expanding with new corridors being developed.
  • Kanpur Metro has sections in operation and is being expanded further.
  • Agra Metro’s priority stretch began passenger operations in march 2024.
UPMRC’s long‑term blueprint envisions full build‑out by 2047, but significant segments of these networks will be operational well before then — especially as early expansions complete in the next few years.


4) 🛠️ Major Expansion Figures (2025–2047)

Under the plan:

  • Lucknow: ~225 km of metro network
  • Kanpur: ~200 km planned
  • Agra: ~100 km planned
    Together with routes in other cities, UP is targeting a 1,575 km metro network by 2047.
This ambitious scale makes Uttar Pradesh one of the most heavily planned metro rail states in India.
