Fast X - Dwayne Johnson Returns after Public Fight with Vin Diesel
How determined Johnson was about leaving the series is what made his comeback so unexpected. Vin diesel, the actor and producer of the "Fast and Furious" film series, sent a message on instagram in november 2021 effectively pleading for Dwayne Johnson to rejoin the main series. Johnson and Jason Statham co-starred in "Hobbs & Shaw," a spin-off, in 2019.
Johnson was on a roll as recently as 2019, with successes like "Rampage" and the two massively successful "Jumanji" sequels ($962 million in 2017 and $800 million in 2019), as well as honorable flops like the original "Die Hard" meets "Towering Inferno" mash-up "Skyscraper." Even with its massive audience, Netflix's "Red Notice" received mixed reviews and, in the streaming era, came to symbolize extravagant spending and four-quadrant mockbuster mediocrity. There are still two sequels in the works.
His little period of coolness has abruptly come to an end, however, as he rejoins one of the most popular and lucrative franchises ever. With a total gross of more than $6 billion, the series is the seventh highest-grossing property in hollywood history.
