Will PS 2 Revive Or Ruin Tamil Industry?

The year 2023 is shaping up to be significantly better for the indian film industry. Almost every sector has produced some significant hits. With Pathaan, even bollywood has produced a film worth $1 billion. But up to this point, the tamil film industry has not been able to produce much. Big names like Varisu and Thunivu existed, but they fell short of expectations. The tamil film industry has now placed all of its expectations in ponniyin selvan 2, Mani Ratnam's historical period epic.

The film's first installment was a major commercial success in tamil Nadu, but it was a flop in other languages. The sequel to a successful movie is typically anticipated to perform higher at the box office because of the increased buzz brought on by the established brand. According to the current trends, PS 2 is having trouble matching the sales of its predecessor. When compared to the first portion, the bookings are bad not only in the tamil states but also in the US.

According to industry rumours, the first installment wasn't particularly engaging, and as a result, there isn't much anticipation for its follow-up. Due to the tamil audience's eagerness to see their Chola heritage on the big screen, the first installment made a fortune. The boring narrative in PS 1 eliminated the audience's desire to watch the film's second installment, therefore there is no longer any such piqued interest.

All eyes are currently focused on the media coverage that its premiere shows will produce. PS 2 may have a shot at the box office if the buzz is overwhelmingly good, but if not, it will plunge the tamil film industry even deeper into the shadows and incur unfathomable losses.
