Christmas With You Review - A Genuine Holiday Rom-Com
Angelina, a pop icon played by Aimee Garcia, has an unexpected turn in her career when her label signs budding talent Cheri Bibi (Nicolette Stephanie Templier). Angelina must deliver a hit christmas song to her label in order to prove to them that she still has the star power as she has little options to further her career. When she runs out of ideas, Angelina retreats to a remote town where she encounters her biggest supporter Cristina (Deja Monique Cruz) and her lone songwriter father Miguel (Freddie Prinze Jr.). They decided to work together to make music magic where love is in the air and hope is just around the corner.
Everything one might anticipate from a Netflix holiday film is present in christmas With You. It frequently veers into cringe-worthy territory and is predictable as well as rather improbable. However, the movie is great to watch at this time of year because of how well it handles the emotions of love, loss, and new beginnings. The script skillfully expresses these feelings and experiences through Angelina in a way that viewers will find relevant. Even though Angelina is a celebrity, her character is humanised by the fact that she is a person with typical desires and dreams. The writing is improved by watching her character traverse this stage of her career with the weight of loss looming over every decision, giving the film more depth than first appears.
