Not every actor in
tollywood goes by the
english name Superstar. Only the
hero krishna received it;
telugu names were used for other actors in his genre. Ghattamaneni Sivarama Krishna, better known as Krishna, was a courageous character that appeared in a variety of media. Even in
politics at one point, he shown such audacity. It's interesting to note that he was N T Rama Rao's main rival or adversary in both
politics and the film industry.
krishna participated in, directed, and produced a number of movies that competed with NTR's movies at the time in theatres.
Krishna joined the
congress under Rajiv Gandhi's leadership, ran in the 1989
elections from the
eluru Parliament Constituency, and won the seat.
ntr was leading the National Front at the time
krishna joined, when
ntr was at the pinnacle of his political career. By a margin of 71,000 votes, he defeated Bolla Bulliramaiah, the TDP's incumbent MP. However,
krishna was defeated by Bulliramaiah in the ensuing 1991
election by a margin of 47,000 votes. It is believed that the animosity between
ntr and
krishna first surfaced in 1976, when both actors began production on their own Mahabharat-inspired films.
The talks for a compromise between them fell through while
ntr was making the
movie Dana Veera Sura Karna and
krishna was making the
movie Kurukshetram. When
ntr was the
chief minister of an unified Andhra Pradesh, he began making movies with political themes such as Ramarajyamlo Bheemaraju, Prajarajyam, Mukhyamantri, Nayakulaku Saval, Agniparvatam, Vajrayudham, Naa Pilupe Prabhanjanam, Sankharavam, Prajaprathinidhi, Rajakeeya Chadarangam
krishna made his
movie debut in 1994, the year
ntr was elected
chief minister for the second time, in
telugu Veera Levara, Bharata Simham, and Sambhavam.
