Confess, Fletch Review: Enjoyable Jon Hamm Mystery

G GOWTHAM
Irwin "Fletch" Fletcher returns to the big screen thanks to Jon Hamm. Hamm assumes the character of the unusual investigative reporter who might have a chance to carry the mantle in quite some time after multiple attempts to revamp or continue the series that began with Chevy Chase. Confess, Fletch follows Fletch as he turns into a murder suspect while looking for art that has been taken. Confess, Fletch isn't a ringing endorsement of resurrecting 80s films; rather, it is a superb display of Jon Hamm's comedic talents, a well-known talent that has, up until now, mainly been misapplied.

The second book in Gregory McDonald's Fletch trilogy, Confess, Fletch, centres on the sardonic, always-footless investigative reporter Irwin Fletcher played by Jon Hamm. After returning from an Italian vacation, he discovers a dead body in his Boston townhouse, and surprise, surprise, he is the main suspect. While this is going on, Fletch has been asked to assist his girlfriend Angela (Lorenza Izzo) with some family issues and a missing piece of art. Fletch must clear his identity and locate the lost artwork while dealing with various pranks that don't phase him in the least. He seemed to flourish in disarray.

Although Fletch isn't perfect, it succeeds in giving spectators a new mystery savant who will stick out from the crowd. Hamm's laid-back demeanour when playing Fletch shows that he is at ease and comfortable with the role. I hope this movie has some success. It will be unfortunate if this revival is unable to develop into a full-fledged franchise. Although Mottola may not have been the best choice for this project, there is still opportunity for improvement, and perhaps he and Hamm will be able to work out the details of what makes a successful Fletch series.
