James Gunn has revealed which of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special was more difficult to shoot. The adventures of a ragtag group of space-faring heroes, including Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Groot (Vin Diesel), Rocket (Bradley Cooper), Nebula (Karen Gillan), Mantis (Pom Klementieff), and Drax are chronicled in The Guardians of the Galaxy, a subfranchise of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (Dave Bautista). Their plot began in the 2014 film Guardians of the Galaxy and has since spread to a number of standalone and crossover movies, making appearances in Thor: love and Thunder, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame.

The heroes will appear in the following film, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which will hit theaters on May 5, 2023. Saldaa will still appear in the movie, but in a new role, as it will follow the events that occur after Endgame, in which Star-Lord is still grieving over the loss of Gamora despite the fact that a time-traveling version of her still remains in the present. The characters will, however, make their live-action debut in the Disney+-only The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, which is scheduled to air in december 2022, before the movie ever starts production. Back-to-back productions for the two future Guardians films were directed by Gunn.
