Why did the Chinese government ban the Spider-Man movie? Why does hollywood not fall for China? The movie "Spider-Man - No Way Home" which was released in december last year was hugely adored by the movie lovers. The film broke box office records and grossed $ 2 billion (approximately Rs 15,000 crore). The success of the film has given new hope to the film industry, which has been hit hard by the Corona influence.

However, the film was banned in China. china has recently banned anything that could challenge China's sovereignty. But, there is nothing in the Spider-Man movie that violates China’s values. There is not even the slightest mention of china in the film. In this context, the question arises as to what is going on between china and Hollywood.

Is there an agenda other than banning the evil propaganda against China? Why did china ban the Spider-Man movie?

China, Hollywood

Before 1949, the Chinese film industry was very small. Its scope was limited to films made in china, with the exception of a few hollywood films. But, with the emergence of the People's Republic of china, the situation in the country changed completely after Mao Zedong came to power. Films made in hollywood and hong kong have been banned in china since 1951. Back then, vehicles showing movies in china roamed the country. The farmers and workers shown in these films propagated their devotion to the Communist party through their stories.

For three decades since then, such films have dominated the Chinese film world. Wendy Sue, author of 'Chinese Encounter with Global Hollywood', writes that she has screened the only American film in china in the last 30 years. No one has ever heard of the movie 'Salt of the Earth'. It's a story based on the lives of miners in New Mexico.

Hollywood blacklisted the filmmakers for their alleged links to the Communist Party. This seems to be the same important reason why the film was screened in China. The death of Mao in 1976 marked a turning point in the Chinese film industry. The film, which remained a government propaganda tool for decades, gained some independence. But, with no help from the government, the Chinese film industry was plagued by a lack of funding.

"China's film industry is in serious trouble. Many studios have gone bankrupt. Officials have made new suggestions due to a lack of funding from producers to produce films. "The government film bureau has been advised to buy hit movies in Hollywood. people in china also like these movies. If the audience goes to the theater to see these movies, the revenue comes in. With this money, they can help make movies in China. Since then, hollywood movies have started coming to china," Wendy Sue said.

The blockbuster movie 'The Fugitive' was released in hollywood in 1994. It is the story of a husband who proves the charge of killing his wife wrong. The film stars Harrison ford and Tommy Lee Johns in the lead roles. The film had an amazing impact on the Chinese audience. "Audiences in china thought that hit movies in hollywood would be very interesting. Filled with action scenes, the fast-moving film surprised them because they had not been introduced to world cinema for the past 30 years.

This ushered in a new era not only for the audience in china but for the entire film industry. But, china has decided to screen only 10 hollywood movies every year. hollywood gets 10% of the revenue from these movies. But, these movies are priceless to the people in China. They were curious to see the outside world. But, the government wanted to get revenue by showing only films that did not challenge the Chinese rule.
