The country's stock market is constantly attracting investors with a bang. Seeing money being made in equity through mutual funds, investors are rapidly adopting mutual fund investment and for this a demat account is the first requirement. For this reason, the number of people opening demat accounts is increasing at a rapid pace day and night and the result is coming in the form of increasing figures of demat accounts.

Demat accounts increased to 16.2 crores in June

The number of demat accounts in the country has increased by 42 lakh to 16.2 crores in June. Motilal oswal Financial Services has informed in the report on thursday that the total demat accounts have increased to 162 million in june 2024. In the current financial year, an average of 34 lakh demat accounts have been opened every month. According to a report by Motilal oswal Financial services, the total number of demat accounts in the market share of Central Depositories services Limited (CDSL) is continuously increasing.

The report said that the market share of National Securities Depositories Limited (NSDL) has fallen by 4.3 per cent on an annual basis in terms of the total number of demat accounts. The number of active clients on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) has increased by 3.1 per cent on a monthly basis and has reached 4.42 crores in June.

5 top discount brokers have 64.4 percent of NSE's active clients

At present, the top five discount brokers of the country have 64.4 percent of NSE's active clients. This figure was 58.2 percent in june 2022. The reason for opening a large number ofdemat accounts in india is the increasing trend of the general public towards the stock market. The bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) index Sensex has given investors a return of more than 10 percent since the beginning of this year.
