5% GST on packaged Yogurt, butter & Wheat..!?
The 2nd-day meeting of the GST Council is still being held today under the chairmanship of Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman. Although GST compensation is the biggest topic of discussion at this meeting, there are fears that GST charges may be increased for various food items.
Already the prices of various essential commodities have reached an all-time high. In this scenario, the GST is expected to further increase the prices of many commodities. It seems that GST can be levied on all packaged goods and labeled meats (except frozen goods). This list includes wheat, and other grains, as well as wheat flour, jaggery, and rice (Muri), fish, yogurt, honey.
The complete list of items on this list has not yet been released. An official announcement is expected after today's GST meeting. Overall, the GST Council decision may increase the prices of meat, milk, yogurt, butter, honey, bread, flour, and fish.
And while it is said to be packaged goods, the big question is what kind of products can be added to it. Of great concern is the type of flour that will be added to the list, as well as the grains.
Inflation in india is already at its peak. In such an environment, if taxes are levied on essential food items and other necessities, prices will rise sharply as a result. This can further push the common man into trouble. This can further aggravate the problem.
