In the 2000s, VV Vinayak was thought to be the finest choice to helm a big-budget commercial comedy. He produced a number of successful films, including Adi, Tagore, Dil, and Adurs. He gradually lost his edge and began producing subpar pictures. Last week saw the premiere of his newest movie, chatrapathi, a remake of the 2005 SS rajamouli blockbuster of the same name starring Prabhas. Bellamkonda Sreenivas was to make his bollywood debut with this movie, which was even well-promoted. However, the movie was a complete failure, and tens of thousands of dollars were made at the box office.
Another such filmmaker who had a strong reputation for creating humorous comedies but lost it after NTR's baadshah and was never the same is Srinu Vaitla. He provided 4-5 failures in a row and is currently unemployed. He's been working on starting a project for years, but he can't seem to find a hero or a banner willing to back him. Rumours suggest that Gopichand and Srinu Vaitla may soon work together on a project. However, no formal statement has been made.
When and if chiranjeevi decides to create a remake, there was a chance that VV Vinayak might have a chance to make a movie, but with the chatrapathi debacle, that slim chance also appears to be lost. It is sad to see two of the directors who entertained a generation in such a way failing. Our culture has embraced the memes and sequences from their movies. If they had been in better shape, their films would still be highly profitable and relevant today.
