What order did Supreme Court give on claim of SC/ST, OBC?On Tuesday, august 20, the supreme court overturned the madhya pradesh High Court's decision to deny admission to deserving candidates from the Reserved Category to the Unreserved Category (General Category). The madhya pradesh MBBS seat allotment is at issue in this lawsuit. Five percent of the available seats were set up for kids attending government schools (GS). Many seats were left unfilled in accordance with Rule 2(g) of the 2018 madhya pradesh education Admission Rules. The GS-UR category was changed to the Open category to accommodate these open seats. The appellants had challenged the decision of the Medical education Department of madhya pradesh, in which eligible reserved category students were not given MBBS seats in the government school quota of the general category. Some eligible students, who were from the reserved category, had earlier challenged the way the madhya pradesh government implemented horizontal reservation in the High Court. However, the high court had rejected these petitions. After this, the appellants appealed to the supreme Court. The appellants said that eligible students of the reserved category should be given MBBS seats in the general category government school quota before they are released in the open category. The main legal question in this case was what is the true meaning of horizontal and vertical reservation. Can a qualified student, who comes from the reserved category, be prevented from getting a seat in the general category under the horizontal reservation scheme or not?
