Unique village in India emerges only in May!
Many times, leaders bring new projects for their people and promise to complete them. But after the formation of the government, they forget the promises made and the problems of the common people remain as they are. A similar story is of a village in Goa. Something happened with this village in 1986 that till date this village remains submerged in water for 11 months and comes out only for 1 month.
Why does a village stay in water for 11 months ?
The name of this village of goa is Kurdi. It stays in water for 11 months of the year and comes out of water for about 1 month. This village is situated between two mountains near the Saloulim river. It is said that this village used to be happy once. But the prosperity of the village with a population of 3 thousand was snatched away by the first dam built in the village in the year 1986.
Village drowned due to dam
When goa became independent from the Portuguese in 1961, its first chief minister Dayanand Bandodkar decided to build the state's first dam in this village and promised the villagers that this dam would benefit the whole of South Goa. Bandodkar named this project the Salaulim Irrigation Project and this dam was built near the Salaulim River.
When the construction of the dam started, about 600 families were displaced from Kurdi village to other villages and they were given land and compensation. He promised that they would be given drinking water, irrigation water. It was also said that 40 crore liters of water would be given to them daily, which promise has not been fulfilled till date.
Villagers come to celebrate in the month of May
Before 1986, about 3000 villagers used to live in this village. This village was very fertile and full of wealth. Coconut, cashew, mango and jackfruit were cultivated here. In this village people of all religions used to live with brotherhood. But now only the ruins are left, to see which the natives of Kurdi village come to this village in the month of May and relive their old memories.
