In 1992, a resolution to celebrate World Water Day was passed at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Know this year's theme and what is the status of water in India.
1. This year's theme is based on Groundwater
This year's theme is 'Groundwater: Making the Invisible Visible'. In hindi it is groundwater: to make the invisible visible. The international Groundwater Resource Assessment Center has proposed this theme. Let us tell you that in the last decade, the level of groundwater is decreasing in a worrying manner not only in india but all over the world. The reason for this is deforestation and climate change. The purpose of this theme is to make people aware about groundwater level and environmental balance.2. Water crisis is increasing rapidly in India
Due to industrialization and felling of trees in india, the groundwater level is depleting at an alarming rate. The ground water level in the country has decreased by 61% between 2007-2017. Four cities (Chennai first, kolkata second, mumbai 11th and delhi 15) in the top 20 out of 400 cities in the world facing water crisis.4. indians spend too much water than they need
According to the World health Organization (WHO), about 25 liters of water every day is enough to meet the needs of a person. The per capita water consumption here is 272 liters per day, mainly due to wastage of water and industrial consumption. Also, there is no standard limit on water usage in homes.5. Take a pledge today to save water in 5 ways
- To maintain the groundwater level, it is necessary that the trees should be cut at least.
- Take a resolution for daily needs, will not waste more water than necessary
- Inculcate small habits of using water, such as instead of throwing rice or donated water in pots, repair loose taps etc. in the house immediately. If you see water being wasted somewhere in the society, stop it.
- Plant trees on birthdays or on any special occasion because only trees and greenery can save the groundwater level.
- Instead of wasting rain water, collect it at home level and can put it in lawns or plants.
