What is the reason for migration?
Due to some compulsion, people migrate from their city or country. Such as unemployment, lack of living arrangements, riots, bad weather, natural disasters, diseases and poverty. Sometimes a new place attracts people towards itself. Such as good jobs, better living facilities, peace and order, security and good weather.
Sometimes people leave their homes for social reasons. After marriage, you can move from one place to another to meet your family or to be closer to your community. Like a girl going to her in-laws' house after marriage or moving to another city to escape caste discrimination and violence. Some people migrate so that their traditions, customs and beliefs are respected. For example, a community can settle in a place where there are more people of their religion or caste so that their cultural identity can be maintained.
When political instability, conflicts or atrocities increase in a country or area, people are forced to flee from there and take shelter elsewhere to save their lives. So sometimes people may be forced to migrate due to government policies, administrative actions or separatist movements.
Apart from this, natural disasters such as floods, earthquakes, droughts, and side effects of climate change such as depletion of forests, andwater scarcity can also be the reasons. According to a 2020 report by Action Aid and Climate Action Network, a total of 14 million people have been displaced due to climate and environmental reasons in India. The report also estimates that by 2050, more than 4.5 crore people will be forced to flee their homes.
