The taj mahal, an iconic symbol of love located in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, is a marvel that captivates people from all corners of the world. Spread across 17 hectares, equivalent to 42 acres or 67 bighas, the taj mahal stands as a testament to the dedication of the thousands of laborers who contributed to its construction.

The idea for the taj mahal is believed to have been inspired by Jag Mandir, a structure built by Maharaja karan Singh in the early 17th century. This temple served as a hideaway for prince Khurram, also known as Shahjahan, during a rebellion against his father. Shahjahan's stay at Jag Mandir is said to have sparked the inspiration for the creation of the Taj Mahal.

Construction of the mausoleum, the central structure of the taj mahal, was essentially completed in 1643. However, additional work on various components of the project continued for another decade. Interestingly, the original name of the taj mahal is "Rauza-i-Munawwara," which translates to "shining tomb" in Hindi. The main dome of the mausoleum stands at a height of 240 feet, while the four minarets each reach a height of 130 feet.

The taj mahal continues to draw around 80 lakh (8 million) visitors annually, showcasing its timeless beauty and significance as one of the world's most renowned architectural wonders.
