A Retired U.S. Navy Admiral Says Something May Be Hiding in Earth's Oceans — But...
The world's oceans cover more than 70% of Earth, yet much of them remain astonishingly unexplored. That fact alone has long fueled speculation, conspiracy theories, and countless science-fiction stories. Now, comments from retired U.S. Navy Rear Admiral Tim Gallaudet have once again pushed the conversation back into the spotlight.
But before anyone starts imagining alien cities hidden beneath the Pacific, it's important to separate what was actually said from what social media claims are suggesting.
• The headline-grabbing claim is dramatic. Gallaudet has argued that some unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAPs) and unidentified submerged objects (USOs) appear to demonstrate capabilities beyond known human technology, including the ability to transition seamlessly between air and water.
• That doesn't mean there is proof of alien bases. Despite countless viral posts and videos, there is currently no publicly available satellite imagery, google Earth data, or verified mapping evidence showing extraterrestrial facilities beneath the oceans.
• The famous Malibu "underwater base" theory doesn't hold up. One of the most widely shared examples involves a structure near Malibu known as Sycamore Knoll. However, the feature is recognized as a natural seamount, and the suspicious flat appearance often cited online has been attributed to mapping artifacts and bathymetric data limitations rather than advanced technology.
• The oceans remain largely unexplored. Estimates suggest that only a fraction of the seafloor has been mapped in great detail. That reality leaves plenty of room for unanswered questions, scientific discoveries, and speculation.
• Speculation is not evidence. This is where the debate becomes most important. The existence of unexplored regions does not automatically support extraordinary claims about non-human intelligence.
What makes this story fascinating isn't that alien bases have been discovered. It's that they haven't. The mystery survives because vast portions of Earth's oceans remain unknown. Yet unknown does not mean extraterrestrial. For now, the gap between possibility and proof remains enormous. Until stronger evidence emerges, the underwater alien hypothesis remains exactly what it has always been: an intriguing theory searching for convincing data.
