Google has honoured a special woman on its doodle today. Today i.e. on august 23, you will see Anna Mani on Google. Anna Mani has been an indian meteorologist and google remembered her on her 104th birthday. Anna has contributed significantly to the design of instruments that help in observing the weather. These instruments play a very important role in measuring and forecasting the weather in India.


Who is Anna Mani?

Anna Mani was born on 23 august 1918 in Peerumedu, Kerala. She did such work in the field of meteorology that physicists and meteorologists called her the weather woman of India. Due to the efforts of Anna Mani, it was possible to forecast the weather in India. Honouring her contribution, google made a special doodle on her 104th birthday.


Anna graduated in Physics and Chemistry from Presidency college, chennai (Madras) in 1939. After this, she went to Imperial college London for further studies. There she specialized in weather-related equipment. She returned to india in 1948 and started a job in the Meteorological Department. Anna has also written many research papers related to meteorological instruments.

 In 1969, Anna was appointed as the Deputy director General in the indian Meteorological Department. Anna set up a workshop in Bengaluru to measure wind speed and solar energy. Apart from this, she also did research on the ozone layer. In 1976, she retired from the post of Deputy director General of the indian Meteorological Department.
