The indian team was on a tour of pakistan when the former PM's body was riddled with bullets. Team india had played one ODI and 2 test matches of the series. The second ODI was going on in Sialkot on 31 october and the indian team was in a strong position.

A call came to the stadium and the match had to be stopped

The match was going on and sandeep Patil and dilip Vengsarkar were in great shape. There was a partnership of 143 runs between the two and the indian team seemed to be in a very strong position. At such a time, suddenly a call came in the stadium and there was silence. The news of the assassination of the prime minister of india had been received and the challenge in front was that the indian team could be sent to the country safely.

Captain sunil gavaskar and manager raj Singh Dungrupur wept on hearing this news. There were 25,000 spectators in the ground and in the midst of all this, information about the cancellation of the match had to be given and the security of the indian team could not be put at risk. Pakistan's dictator General Zia-ul-Haq ordered the cancellation of the match. Along with this, Zia had also issued instructions to the officials to bring the indian players safely.

Shameful act by Pak audience after Indira's assassination

There was a lot of outrage among the spectators due to the cancellation of the match, but at that time dictator Zia was ruling. The President's order was told and when the audience was informed about the death of the indian PM, what they did can be called shameful in history.

When the audience was told that the prime minister of india had been assassinated and because of this the cricket series was being canceled, the Pakistani audience started applauding and shouting slogans. In fact, during Indira's reign, bangladesh was carved out of pakistan and because of this the Pakistani people were very angry with her. In an interview to the BBC, the then stadium officials had said that it was a shame and a painful experience for us to see that our spectators were applauding the killing of the PM of the neighboring country.
