Reasons for the increase in early puberty in India...

There can be many complex reasons behind early puberty, these reasons include biological, environmental, social and urbanization related factors. Let's understand them in detail.

1. Pesticides and chemical pollution: Dr. Vaisakhi Rastegi, while talking to ABP, narrated the story of one of her patients and said that a patient came to me. She saw some significant changes in the body of her six-year-old daughter, which were abnormal and this made her very worried.

Dr Vaisakhi further says, "Archana (name changed) had told her that there are two 5 kg pesticide cans kept in her house and her daughter often plays near them. These pesticides and chemical pollution can affect the hormonal system of children and cause precocious puberty. Actually pesticides contain chemicals that can mess up the hormonal system of the body. These chemicals mimic the normal hormones present in the body, causing hormonal imbalance and early puberty can start.

2. Nutrition and diet: The effect of nutrition has a very profound effect on the development of children. According to Dr. Vaisakhi Rastegi, the time of puberty in girls has decreased in recent years. This may be related to increasing weight and obesity in children. Eating habits of high-fat food and high-calorie food can increase obesity in children, which can catalyze hormonal changes.

Excessive use of packaged food, processed diet and preservatives can also accelerate the growth of the body. These Chemicals and synthetics can cause hormonal imbalances that trigger puberty earlier than normal.

3. Obesity: Obesity, which has become a global health problem, is one of the main causes of precocious puberty. Dr prashant Patel, who is researching the issue in Mumbai, told a BBC report that obesity has become the biggest risk factor for early puberty in children. This problem has increased during the COVID-19 pandemic, when children started spending more time at home and physical activity decreased.

Obesity causes excess fat to accumulate in the body, which increases the production of hormones like estrogen, which accelerates puberty. As a result, girls may start menstruating early, which usually occurs at the age of 10 to 13 years.
