Nipah Virus: Vaccine spells in three days!

Like Covid, the infection from the Nipah virus spreads through the lungs. But it is more deadly. It has been listed by the World health Organization (WHO) as one of the potential viruses for the next epidemic.

Scientists at the university of texas at Urbana-Champaign have developed a vaccine that can fight the deadly Nipah virus in three days. Nipah is a zoonotic virus (transmitted from animals to humans). It can be transmitted through contaminated food or by direct contact with secretions from humans.

About three to seven days before the Nipah virus was caught, American scientists vaccinated African green monkeys using an experimental jab. The study was published in the journal National Academy of Sciences (PNAS).

All monkeys that have been vaccinated have been shown to be protected from deadly diseases. Sixty-seven percent of the animals that were vaccinated three days before contact with the virus survived despite receiving partial protection.

These studies are a promising first step toward demonstrating the vaccine's safety and possible efficacy. Future research is needed, he said, to determine the minimum dose required for efficacy and the duration of vaccine-induced immune responses.

The World health Organization (WHO) has identified the Nipah virus as a public health problem that affects a wide range of animals and causes serious illness and death in humans.

The first Nipah expansion ...

The first NIP outbreak was reported in 1998-99 in malaysia and Singapore. The name Nipa comes from the name of a village in malaysia where a person who was confirmed to be infected with the virus died of the disease.

During this early spread, the virus first appeared in domestic pigs

About 300 people were infected that day, and more than 100 died. One million pigs were killed that day to prevent the spread of the infection. Although there has been no outbreak in the region since then, there have been multiple outbreaks of NIV in india and Bangladesh.
